In 2007 our team, based out of Mosaic Church in Austin, TX, made our first trip to San Luis Potosi to begin working with the Casa Vallado Children’s Home. This children’s home was started by a couple of women who became aware of a situation involving 4 siblings, all under the age of 6, who were living on the streets and having to care for themselves because of the neglect of their parents. These women could no longer bear the thought of children digging through trash cans for breakfast and were compelled to do something about it.
Their response to this crisis was to liquidate their own resources and launch Casa Vallado. Our response, was to come alongside them, and many others who have volunteered their time, energy and resources, to make sure these children not only have a safe place to call home, but that they would also receive the love, nurture, and education needed for a hopeful future.
The Vallado Project began as a once a year trip to serve at the children’s home. It soon evolved into 3 trips a year, a monthly partnership program, and a pen pal program aimed at helping the Directors and staff serve, equip and love these children to the best of their ability.
